Plot
Warning: spoilers

Raised in the Communist intelligentsia, a young student is orphaned as she grows to adulthood in the shadow of the 1956 Hungarian uprising. She watches friends and family react in starkly different ways: her lover, a married factory manager, backs the patriots and later helps workers stage a strike, while her sister and others voice anger at being forced from their homes and continue to hate the rebels afterward. In the end, they realize that real life is not possible for anyone after the revolt and its brutal suppression by the Soviets and their collaborators.
