Sent home from school for constantly falling asleep in lessons, eight-year-old Tistou begins learning from real life instead. In the garden, gardener Mr. Moustache helps him discover a remarkable gift: everything he touches grows into beautiful plants. Under the stern Mr. Turnbull, manager of his father's armament factory, Tistou visits the town to learn about order, encountering the prison, the slums, and the hospital, where he uses his power to make things better. Finally, he learns about war and discovers that his father's factory supplies weapons to both warring countries.
