This documentary traces the life of Carola Neher (1900–1942), an actress, singer, and feminist who inspired Brecht's Polly Peachum and once boxed with Marlene Dietrich. After Hitler seized power, thousands of German communists and anti-fascists sought refuge in the Soviet Union, only to perish or disappear during Stalin's purges. Neher is one of those tragic figures, and the film follows her son Georg Becker as he searches for traces of his mother in the fading Soviet Union.
