Shing and Hsiong are competitive young men raised by the head of a powerful Triad group. Shing seems to have the edge: his unmatched gunfighting skills earn him the nickname Golden Gun, and the boss's pretty daughter favors him over Hsiong. But when Shing declines his godfather's appointment to head the Triad, he is kicked out and shunned. Hsiong becomes the new boss and marries the daughter. Shing moves to Macau, works as a common laborer, and rooms with Carrie Ng and her small son. Carrie's kid brother, a bad egg, brings crime back into Shing's life, and traitors and double-crossers soon put everyone in jeopardy.
