This romantic drama centers on characters all waiting for something. Jeanne waits for her husband Francois, who abandoned her and their son Christophe a couple of years ago. The boy also waits for his father. Meanwhile, Jeanne's current lover Marcel waits for her to come to her senses about the cad who went away and to recognize the worthiness of his love. The absent husband waits for the right time to make his belated reappearance. The story unfolds near the gas station Jeanne runs in a desiccated and remote region of southern France.
