Lizzie and Alex Brooks are a young couple in love, raising their little girl, Emma. When a stroke leaves Lizzie in a coma, Alex brings her home and devotes himself to her care. Gail, Lizzie's best friend, offers Alex loving friendship and steps in for Lizzie with young Emma. After 20 years, Lizzie emerges from the coma and tries to assimilate back into a radically changed world. Emma, now about to be married, is thrilled to have her mother back, as are Alex and Gail.
