Bander, a 17-year-old Earth boy, resides on a far-off world inhabited by human shape-shifters who subsist on vegetables and animal tails. Their lives are disrupted when invaders launch an assault, sparking violence. Broadcast on Nippon Television as part of the 24-hour charity program "Ai wa Chikyu wo Sukuu," this production was Japan's first two-hour animated film for television and drew high ratings. It reflects Osamu Tezuka's ambition for theatrical-quality animation after a long gap since his previous TV animated film.
