Plot
Warning: spoilers
Zack Mayo is a taciturn man who wants to be a navy pilot. At training camp for his 13-week officer's course, he runs afoul of abrasive drill Sergeant Emil Foley, who rides him mercilessly because he senses Mayo could be prime officer material if he weren't so self-involved. Mayo's affair with a working girl is also compromised by his unwillingness to give of himself.
