By 2159, humanity is split between the affluent residents of Elysium, a flawless man-made space station, and the masses left on an overcrowded, devastated Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hardline official, uses any means necessary to keep Earth's people out and protect Elysium's luxury. Despite the crackdown, many still attempt to enter. When unlucky Max finds himself with no way out, he accepts a dangerous mission that might not only save his life but also upend the inequality between the two worlds.
