Life at home changes considerably for Max after his owner marries and welcomes a child. A family trip to the countryside takes the terrier even further outside his comfort zone. The cows have little patience for dogs, the local foxes are hostile, and even a turkey proves intimidating. Then Max meets Rooster, a farm dog whose gruff manner comes with a willingness to help. Rooster sets about teaching his nervous visitor how to face the things that frighten him, giving Max a chance to approach his unfamiliar surroundings with more confidence.
