Plot
Warning: spoilers
Jane Hartman dislikes her own life, seeing herself as goofy and boring, and her love life involves reading Iris Murdoch novels out loud to her loopy boyfriend. Antonia McGill, her oldest friend, is polished and successful: she orders the right food, complains effectively, and has a brilliant career. The contrast between the two women fuels a mutual resentment that defines their long-standing relationship.
