Mariya Egorova's reckless life as "Magdalene" comes to an abrupt halt when a friend traps her in debt, confiscates her passport, and connects her with a pimp who expects her to work as a prostitute. During the encounter, Mariya strikes the pimp in the head and is taken to a police station, but she escapes. Now pursued by both bandits and the police, she desperately needs money to buy a new passport and flee the city with her daughter.
